About the Authors

Alexander I. Poltorak is the founder, chair man, and chief executive

officer of General Patent Corpo ration (GPC), an intellectual p roperty

(IP) management boutique focusing on patent licensing and enforce-

ment as well as IP strategy and valuation. He is also a managing director

of IP Holdings LLC, an IP-centric merchant banking organization

offering IP-related financial, brokerage, and advisory services. He is the

founder and president of a nonprofit industry group, American Innova-

tors for Patent Refor m. Alex Poltorak is a Certified Licensing Profes-

sional (CLP).

Dr. Poltorak has served as an assistant professor of biomathematics at

the Neurology Department of Cor nell University Medical College, as

an assistant professor of physics at Touro College, and as adjunct profes-

sor of law at The Globe Institute for Technology, and has been a guest

lecturer on intellectual property law and economics at the Columbia

University School of Business and School of Engineering. He has a

graduate degree in theoretical and mathematical physics from the State

University of Kuban (Russia). He had been awarded a doctorate degree

for his research in gene ral relativity, which was rescinded for his anti-

communist dissident activities.

Besides Essentials of Intellectual Property, Dr. Poltorak also co-

authored Essentials of Licensing Intellectual Property (John Wiley & Sons,

2004) and contributed a chapter to Making Innovation Pay—Turning IP

into Shareholder Value (John Wiley & Sons, 2006). He has also authored
