About the Author
Maria Antonia Tigre (S.JD. Candidate, LL.M.,
Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace Uni-
versity, J.D., Pontifícia Universidade Católica
of Rio de Janeiro) is the Deputy Director for
Latin America for the Global Net work for the
Study of Human Rights and the Environment
(GNHRE) and a member of the IUCN World
Commission on Environmental Law. She is the
author and co-author of several publications on
themes related to Latin America n, regional, and
international environmental law. Her current
research specica lly focuses on issues concerning
environmental rights and the reshaping of the
existing fra mework of international environmen-
tal law. Originally from Brazil, she also researches environmental protection
of the Amazon ecosy stem, with an emphasis on regional cooperation. Her
rst book, Regional Cooperation in Amazonia: A Comparative Environmental
Law Analysis, was published in 2017. Ms. Tigre has previously worked in the
private sector and at nonprot organizations. She was a visiting scholar at
Widener Law School and Maurice A. Dean Law Sc hool at Hofstra University.
