Thank you so much for the interview with Edward Zigler (June issue), particularly his comments on child care. He's right, we need to care about ratios and staff training.

It is unpardonable in this country that someone has to be trained and licensed before they can give a haircut or manicure, while an eighteen-year-old high school dropout with a G.E.D can be hired by a day care center, placed alone in a room with any number of children, and told to teach them. Such people are usually paid only minimum wage at that.
