Much of my adult life has been spent serving and advocating for the poor among us, and yet even I was inspired by Devin Thorpe's new book, Your Mark on the World.

The book offers a collection of stories of ordinary people who are really making a difference in the world by collaborating with others to perform extraordinary projects. These stories are interwoven with practical, largely financial advice to help people do the same.

As you read the book, you will feel empowered, emboldened and enabled by the stories of people, a few, like the author, with Utah ties. For example, Laura Pexton of Salt Lake City is a young mother and a nurse who was diagnosed with terminal cancer. While fighting for her own life has she traveled the world on medical missions to help the most needy.

The story of local attorney Richard Davis is also inspiring. With two grandchildren diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, "Rick" devoted himself to the cause, becoming...
