As the weather becomes more balmy and warm, many homeowners are looking for ways to forget the humidity, embrace the sunshine, and let the outdoors in. When it comes to the beach or what is considered "sea" or "nautical" decor, simple, nonornamented pieces with natural elements can prove ideal.

Here are some tips from celebrity interior designer and five-time Emmy Award-winning TV personality, Cathy Hobbs to brighten your space and create that perfect beachy vibe:

Use white. "Incorporate white and white-washed pieces into your decor as much as possible. There is simply nothing prettier than a piece that is rubbed or slightly distressed, especially when it comes to beach decor--and white pieces can be used in so many different ways for a fresh look. Also, think about utilizing white architectural elements, such as bead-board wainscoting along walls."

Display natural elements. "One of my favorite tricks when designing for a seaside or beach retreat is to use decorative elements such as rope. You can use small pieces in place of traditional trim for pillows or sofas, and also fill inside of a tall cylinder jar by wrapping it around the interior until it reaches the top. Additionally, you can use it as a decorative wall hanging or create an interesting pattern on a blank canvas."
