Alaska is a far away place, but it has connections. It is very near the great circle route to the Orient. It is the air cargo crossroads of the world. It is located on the Pacific Rim, one of the major geographic and economic regions of the planet. Everybody likes Alaska. We know that because they come here to see us.

And although its economic base is undergoing some change, Alaska has prospects. We have long been a trading partner with Japan, and then Korea. Now we must include China.

In fact we already do business with China, even though we have certain differences of opinion. We are not keen on how they treat their own people. But that will change. We are a little upset about the kinds of military components they export, but that too will change, as soon as China begins to make some money. And they will. Capitalism and free enterprise is catching.
