A new study from the National Bureau of Economic Research takes on a major fear about legal medical marijuana: that it will lead to more underage marijuana use. Economists D. Mark Anderson of Montana State University, Benjamin Hansen of the University of Oregon, and Daniel I. Rees of the University of Colorado-Denver found that "Our results are not consistent with the hypothesis that [medical marijuana] legalization leads to increased use of marijuana by teenagers."

The researchers relied mainly on data from the Youth Risky Behavior Surveys of 1993 to 2011, which were conducted by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
