What Sen. Jesse Helms did for your magazine (Out Back, June) was not just good work--his staff was made to pay attention to details. With a biased and liberal media, Jesse's viewpoints were brushed aside unless he used some far-out verbiage. This got his ideas past the media censors.

I went into an auto-parts store Saturday in Washington, N.C., and never heard English spoken, by the clerks or customers. I am a first-generation American, and my folks made themselves and me learn English. That was part of being Americans.
