* The phrase "divest to invest" is well-worn across the defense acquisitions world, but Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Charles Brown, Jr. doesn't want to hear it.

Speaking at a fireside chat at the McAleese "FY2024 Defense Programs" Conference in March, Brown was asked to comment on Rep. Rob Wittman's, R-Va., disapproval of the strategy, a concept that seeks to recover savings by retiring older equipment to invest in new, more advanced technology.

"The first thing I'll tell you is I do not allow my staff to say those words," Brown said. One senior officer let them slip shortly after Brown's decree, putting the officer on the receiving end of a hot email "fired back" from Brown, he said. "We don't say that," his reply stated.

Rather, the Air Force is "transitioning to the future," Brown said.
