CLF HAS ANNOUNCED A MAJOR LAWSUIT against the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to force the completion of a series of public transit projects promised as part of the Big Dig. In a press conference at CLF's downtown Boston offices, State Senator Jarrett Barrios, Somerville Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and representatives of the City of Medford and Jamaica Plain's Arborway Committee joined CLF in condemning the Commonwealth for failing to uphold legally binding commitments to expand and enhance greater Boston's public transit system.

In 1990, CLF threatened to sue Massachusetts to stop the Big Dig project because increased traffic in downtown Boston would severely increase air pollution. CLF advocates demanded that the Commonwealth take steps to improve Boston's public transit system to help get some cars off the road. The Commonwealth agreed in a legally binding settlement.
