Yoko Mimata's debut recording, titled La Japonesa Salsera, unveils the talents of this Japanese female singer from Osaka. Yoko's singing career started at the age of 15 when she fronted a local rock band in her native city. She discovered salsa while attending the Kyoto University of Foreign Languages, where she majored in Spanish-language Studies. She sang with Conjunto Mamborama and with Las Estrellas (a salsa band composed of former members of Japan's famous salsa band Orquesta La Luz), before relocating to New York City in 1997. Yoko first appeared in New York City's salsa scene when she performed with Chino Núñez & Friends at the New York Salsa Congress in 2006.
