Women In Defense Awards Annual HORIZONS Scholarships.

* Twelve women from around the country will share more than $126,000 for their academic pursuits as the Women In Defense HORIZONS Scholarship class of 2019-20.

The awardees were chosen from among 30 applicants for the annual scholarships that help fund women studying for careers in defense and foreign policy. A panel of three WID National Council members reviewed the submissions.

"These women and their varied studies demonstrate the power of diversity in strengthening our national defense," said Rachel McCaffrey, executive director of WID and a retired Air Force intelligence officer. "It is their leadership, dedication and drive that demonstrate their potential and their commitment to our nation."

Hawk Carlisle, president and CEO of the National Defense Industrial Association, congratulated the awardees. WID is an affiliate of NDIA.

"This class of HORIZONS honorees continues WID's and NDIA's dual commitment: to bolster women in their studies and careers in service to our national security and, in doing so, bring the best to our warfighters," he said. "It takes a diverse, inclusive team to ensure the security of our nation. These women offer their exceptional talent and ideas in support of the military and our country."
