When we first began to think in terms of learning more about the top women business leaders in Alaska a few months ago, we were really genuinely thrilled about the project. Nearly everybody knows of a few standouts in business who are women, but we were not prepared for the huge number of businesses owned and operated by women that we knew nothing about-until now. As it has turned out, very competent women hold forth in many of the traditional "male bastions of power," such as engineering, construction and mechanical repair, for example.
