Women In Defense hits 4,000-member mark.

In July, National Defense Industrial Association affiliate Women In Defense signed up its 4,000th member.

The distinction went to Kerrie Newbold of Arlington, Va., who works for the Army.

WID membership has doubled since 2009.

Cultivating and supporting the advancement of women in all aspects of national security is the mission of WID. Both men and women belong to the organization, which provides a formal environment for professional growth through networking, education and career development. Members have careers related to the defense of the United States and national security.

The association has 17 chapters throughout the nation. Its president is Tricia Ward of Booz Allen Hamilton in San Diego.
