Several related events in recent months brought together Women In Defense members with distinguished professionals. At the organization's annual meeting, the 2005-2006 board of directors was installed. The new directors are: President Jane Walter, of Booz Allen Hamilton; Vice President Susan Ebner, of Buchanan Ingersoll; Treasurer Margaret Divirgilio, of Concurrent Technologies Corp.; Secretary Kelli Short-Tomasulo, of PMA Group; Horizons Scholarship Fund Director Valerie Schlickbernd, of Camber Corp., and Past President Carolyn Becraft, of Becraft Associates.

During the meeting, Janet Hale, undersecretary for management at the Department of Homeland Security, described homeland security challenges to the audience. Afterwards, WID founders and past presidents joined members and other dignitaries for a special dinner celebrating the organization's 20th anniversary.

Retired Army Lt. Gen. Lawrence Skibbie and retired Air Force Maj. Gen. James E. McInerney Jr. received the President's Award for their contributions in fostering WID's growth. Skibbie is NDIA'S former president, and McInerney is that association's vice president for membership and chapters.

Also this fall, WID's national and chapter leaders met for their third annual Leaders Conference to share ideas and experiences and to look at ways to enhance the membership experience.

WID'S 2005 National Fall Conference, featuring the theme "Honoring Our Past, Shaping Our Future," drew WID members and others from all parts of the nation. The conference was chaired Carole Sue Coupland. Information from the conference appears on the WID website, http://wid.ndia.org.
