The first woman elected to the Nebraska Legislature has died at the age of 78. Kathleen "Pat" Foote, ran for the Legislature in 1954 when she was a 27-year-old farm wife with a degree in political science from Stanford University. She spent $81 on her campaign, and decided to run against a local furniture store owner because he had no opponent. She was unopposed for re-election in 1956, and was defeated in 1958.
