I took the data from your "World's largest wind farm planned for Iowa" (Environmental Intelligence, July/August), which states that "the project would have the capacity to supply electricity to 85,000 homes when completed," and I made the following assumptions: Each of the 85,000 households uses 8,000 kWh per year. Each of the 200 machines has a diameter of 75 meters, and 800 kWh can be realized each year from each square meter of wind disc. And it came out correct! The 85,000 homes use 680 million kWh per year, and the wind machines produce 700 million kWh per year.

Some people think that wind machines are roof-top whirligigs, but not these units...
