Greetings from the Texas gulag. I read your magazine cover to cover and send it up and down the wing to my politically conscious fellow inmates--and to anyone else who's interested in supplementing their steady diet of brain-rotting corporate crap the media foists off on an unsuspecting public. The Progressive is an oasis in a desert of disinfotainment.

While I generally enjoy and agree with Terry Tempest Williams, her article "A Prayer to Awaken" (August issue) is fundamentally flawed.

Williams says "we are all complicit" in the BP oil spill. Later she asks, "How many wars must we start before we see this addictive chain of behaviors for what it is--madness?" This habit of self-blame is an old one and has no basis in fact. I've personally never drilled an oil well in my life, nor have I ever waged war on anyone. I've met the enemy, and it is not myself.
