When the textile and furniture industries landed in the rough, the brush strokes of William Mangum's water-colors became more defined. "There were a couple of projects I had devoted considerable time to that fell through. Businesswise, it made sense to look elsewhere." Mangum, 55, is one of five artists to be licensed by Pebble Beach, and his other credits include Augusta National, Congressional and, in North Carolina, Quail Hollow, Sedgefield and, of course, Pinehurst, where he was the official artist of the 2005 U.S. Open. More than 50,000 copies of his work are in collections worldwide. That's the result of 3,000-plus originals drawn from more than three decades of travel.
