Half of Americans are playing the Grinch this Christmas, maintains the Pollfish Holiday Shopping Survey. For instance, "47% of consumers feel obligated to buy gifts for someone they wish they didn't have to this holiday season," notes John Papadakis, CEO of Pollfish, a mobile survey platform.

Moreover, "58% of those say the person to whom they feel obligated is a family member. That's three times more than the next option--coworkers."

Men, meanwhile, are almost two times as likely to buy gifts for their significant other. Both sexes, however, agree that family comes first--75% of women and 66% of men plan to shower family members with gifts.
