Those who have watched National Geographics documentaries over the years are all too familiar with the spectacle of animals hunting animals. Now, however, in this gripping tribute to Botswana's determined efforts to combat poaching, comes the startling images of man hunting man to protect severely threatened animal species. This video is hard-hitting and sobering, though the realization of the noble purpose behind the manhunt makes the idea ultimately palatable.

With poachers trapping and slaughtering animals for their horns, pelts, meat, and, in the case of elephants, ivory, Africa's once bountiful herds were being decimated. The final straw proved to be the slaying of the last black rhino in 1990, at which point Botswana turned the anti-poaching responsibility over to the country's army.
