The Women In Defense Programs Committee, chaired by Jan Menker, in January sponsored its first Congressional Breakfast for 2001. Guest speakers were Nancy Saucier, Manatt, Phelps and Phillips; Cathy Garmin, American Contract Services Association; and Peter Scrivner, National Defense Industrial Association. Overviews of the 107th Congress and the defense authorization and appropriations processes were given, followed by highlights of this year's defense program.

Annual Meeting and Dinner

The WID Annual Meeting and Dinner will rake place on April 3, 2001 at the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Va. The 2001-2002 officers will be installed during the annual meeting, which will be followed by dinner and a guest speaker.

Forming Your Own Chapter

The following is a chapter-formation checklist.

* Secure the support of at least 35 WID members.

* Host a meeting to explain the proposed new chapter and how members can benefit and participate.

* Form an organizing board to prepare chapter by-laws and associated chapter paperwork.

* Submit charter package to the WID Board for approval.

* After approval, conduct the first business meeting.

* After the business meeting, send chapter members a request for votes on:

* A slate of officers and board members.

* Proposed by-laws.

* Submission of by-laws to the WID board to approve and return.
