As a longtime subscriber and supporter of The Progressive, I greatly admire the work you do. I have a couple of thoughts about Ruth Conniff's "Comment" in the February issue. She writes that the CIA claims that the Russians meddled in the U.S. elections to help elect Donald Trump. Since the CIA routinely lies to the Congress and the American people, I don't believe anything it says without independent verification.

It certainly wouldn't surprise anybody to find that the Russians meddled in our election (as the United States meddles in elections all around the world), but that has nothing to do with why Trump won. He won because the Democratic Party for decades has deserted working and/or poor people in order to favor the 1...
