CBA President’s Message

Patricia Jarzobski, J.

At the heart of the generosity of spirit is a belief in the power of an individual to make a difference, treating individuals with deep respect, and wanting others to flourish.

I love lawyers! I love being a lawyer, working with lawyers, and helping lawyers. This year, I had the pleasure of visiting all 27 local bar associations in each of Colorado’s 22 judicial districts. I met hundreds of diverse attorneys, from Cortez to Steamboat, Sterling to Trinidad, and Colorado Springs to Aspen. These dedicated folks are involved in our local bar associations because they care about their communities and our noble profession As CBA president, I see our profession at its best. I see the generosity of spirit our local bar associations have for access to justice. I see CBA members helping veterans with free legal clinics and attorney first responders ensuring access to justice to travelers at airports. I see established bar leaders working alongside the next generation of leaders to reimagine how we can provide contemporary tools to help our members be successful through all stages of their careers.

Imagine the countless professionals who are out there saving lives, helping kids graduate from high school, or assisting people with substance abuse or mental health problems. Think of all the professionals who inspire, teach, and mentor, and those who referee, listen for a living, and de-escalate conflict and protect. I can think of one professional who does all of these things: judges and magistrates. There are about 25,000 active lawyers in Colorado, and approximately 400 of them-1.6% of all attorneys-have the awesome responsibility of administering fair and impartial justice. I’ve seen our chief justice and chief judges working hard to build courthouse communities around the state to establish a better system for serving our citizens.

I am proud to be a lawyer and proud of our profession As CBA president, I realize the importance of hanging onto this perspective and not losing touch with it.
