Chief financial officer is now one of the most-highly vacated c-level positions due to increased responsibilities coupled with a recessionary economy.

In 2007, a record of 2,310 CFOs left their positions--a 23 percent increase from 2005 departures. During the first half of 2008, more than 100 CFOs from Fortune 1000 companies departed, indicating the turnover trend continuing. However, many others are staying for the chance to impact business performance, according to executive-services firm Tatum LLC.
