Now that the Democratic and Republican conventions have wrapped up, a poll of upscale clothes shoppers by the Second Chance Boutique, Bethesda, Md., provides some interesting insights into the presidential race, especially the mindset of the all-important Independent voter:

* Michelle Obama edged out Cindy McCain (45%-40% of all voters) for the potential "best dressed First Lady" crown. However, 60% of the voters owning "more shoes than Sarah Jessica Parker" of "Sex and the City" fame opt for McCain.

* As for Democratic nominee Barack Obama, pluralities of all political parties prefer him in Armani rather than Brooks Brothers, while there is a party split as to whether Republican hopeful John McCain should wear Hugo Boss or Ralph Lauren, with nearly 60% of Democrats favoring Ralph Lauren and 55% of Republicans and 58% of Independents preferring Hugo Boss.
