In March 2008, there were 353,032 people in the Alaskan labor force. These are the people who either have a job, or are actively seeking employment. Of this number, 55 percent are in Anchorage and the Mat-Su region, which includes Palmer and Wasilla. Thirteen percent are in Fairbanks, and 11 percent are in the Southeast region, which includes Juneau, Ketchikan, Thorne Bay and other southern towns. Ten percent of the Alaskan labor force is on the Gulf Coast. Only 11 percent of the labor force is to be found outside these four major regions, or about 37,870 workers.
