Where do you find content for your blog and how often do you post?

PositionMARKETERS' FORUM - Column

Below are excerpts from a recent online question-and-answer session conducted by marketers who participate in the ABA Marketing Network's Online Community.

QUESTION:

We are considering starting a blog and then integrate it with our website and social media. I am wondering what programs people are using, whether you find it effective, how often you post.

RESPONSE:

To Start a Blog, You Must First Determine What Audience You Are Trying to Reach

I too have found the blog to be a great tool. I use it mainly for financial education. I also used it to speak about a class we adopted during our 100th anniversary. Many people followed the blog.

You need a plan as to who you want to reach.

I currently use a free program "Blogspot." I incorporate it in our monthly newsletter and post on social media.

I use several [sources]: DailyFinance, Practical Money Skills, CNN and ABA. Flowever, I have found that everyday circumstances give me the best topics and people want real answers to real questions. I know you have heard this a 1,000 times, but just like social media, it needs to have a face.

I am a department of one. I do share articles on my newsletters. Because blogs (in my opinion) need to be quick good reads, I say things like, "I recently read an article by/or in" to give credit. Flowever, the majority of the time it takes on a personal meaning.

My blog this month was based on an article I read about "thoughtful spending plans"!

I created a name for my blogs, LEFTe (Life Enhanced Financially Through Education) with the concept of "If your left hand itches, you will receive money" (my mother always said that). But, I think the key is to be engaging. Sometimes it is NOT all about money.
