Black men are missing from daily life. We ought to treat this problem as a public health crisis. Because it is, truly, an epidemic.

As a single black woman living in Milwaukee, I feel and see this void of black men every day.

Because of early deaths or because they are behind bars, there are eighty-three black men for every 100 black women between the ages of twenty-five and fifty-four living outside of jail.

Some weeks ago, there was a tragic series of events in Milwaukee that claimed the lives of two black men and two black boys. It made my heart sink. Four.
