The old neighborhood is full of possibilities. So is the name--Olneyville. Go there and you think, "If only..." The place is traffic-worn, cut off from upscale downtown Providence by unkempt streets, but CLF's new Rhode Island office has a vision. Together with the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council, we're hoping to work on an advocacy initiative that includes (1) making Olneyville more pedestrian-friendly, by creating better access to schools, parks, the river, and downtown, and by helping to institute traffic-calming measures, especially around schools and parks; and (2) helping Olneyville to realize the potential of a Greenway trail that is under construction along the river, and of a nine-acre neighborhood park being built on a restored brownfield.
