It's no secret that the real estate market hasn't been friendly lately. But don't tell that to Sean Whalen.

Under Whalen's direction and ownership, Orem-based Property23 seeks out foreclosed properties and helps clients turn them into profits. Though the company was founded at the outset of the housing crisis, it has seen considerable growth when many of its counterparts have struggled. In less than three years, Property 23 has bought and sold more than 4,000 properties, and it has grown from five employees to more than 100.

Whalen's philosophy is unmistakable: hard work breeds positive results.

"My strengths are being fearless and resilient," he says. "The word 'no' doesn't apply to me. I have the persistence to follow through."

Whalen has turned Property23 into a nationwide company. And while many others have tried their luck in real estate and house flipping, few have matched Whalen's success.

"My vision sets me apart," he says. "I see what's coming. I take a crummy property and see potential."

Another characteristic that has helped Whalen achieve top results is his attitude. He says regardless of one's profession, down times will surely come. But while others throw up their hands in frustration or give up when these difficult moments arise, Whalen uses them as learning experiences, and he finds ways to turn the situation around.
