Weavings of War.

PositionOn the Line - Brief article

Women folk artists in the Third World have been depicting their encounters with war by using textiles in creative ways. The traveling exhibit "Weavings of War: Fabrics of Memory" has gathered together some of these representations from Afghanistan, Chile, Laos, Palestine, Peru, South Africa, and Vietnam, among other places.

Produced by the City Lore, the Michigan State University Museum, and the Vermont Folklife Center, the exhibit is on display at the Michigan State University Museum through June 30. From there it heads to New York City and Hartford later this year, and next year to Boca Raton, Florida, San Francisco, and Logan, Utah.

The 100-page catalog contains scholarly essays, profiles of several artists, and images of the textiles. It sells for $19.95.
