War games aren't all Civil War reenactments or military exercises; they can also be extrapolated to business strategy, as the authors detail. Indeed, the writers--executives at management-consultancy Booz Allen--trace the history of the firm's work in this area back to 1987. That's when executives of Florida-utility firm Florida Power and Light Co., took a fancy to the idea of wargaming and worked for assessing strategic options in a dynamic competitive arena.
