FOLLOWING HAITI'S November 26 presidential elections, the OAS expressed its willingness to continue helping the government and the country's social and political forces in their efforts to strengthen democracy.

Former Haitian president Jean-Bertrand Aristide ran virtually uncontested in a race boycotted by opposition groups.

The elections "took place in accord with the timetable established by the Constitution of Haiti but without any correction of critical deficiencies in earlier local and legislative elections," the OAS said in a written statement.
