Putting Your Solo Practice Plan into Action

Over the past year our column has focused on resources for attorneys considering solo and small f rm practice. We have discussed some useful websites and blogs for general advice (April 2014), office space options (August 2014), library resources and reference services (June and October 2014), and hardware selection and security (December 2014 and February 2015). T is month we wrap up the series with some resources to put your solo practice plan into action.

Law Office Management Software

The time invested in office management is considerable. Every unbillable hour spent running the office affects the firm’s profits. For attorneys with an hourly fee, one of the biggest sources of lost revenue is forgetting to record their time.^[1] The best way to combat such a drain on resources is efficiency, and there are a number of law office management software packages that can help. These systems have functions to track case status and document management, time, billing, accounting, IOLTA accounting, and calendaring. They are cloud-based, providing the ability to access your files from any computer with Internet access.
