So long, but not goodbye

On November 15, 2013, I became the Interim Dean of the University of Wyoming College of Law and on July 1, 2015, I will be stepping down from that position and passing the dean’s mantle to Klint Alexander. It is fitting that my last Wyoming Lawyer column as dean comes in an edition focused on different generations because in many ways transitioning from one dean to another is much like an intergenerational shift. In its nearly 100 year history, UW College of Law has had only 15 deans. Since our inception in 1920, those deans have had to lead the College of Law through the depression, two world wars, Vietnam, the Civil Rights Movement, Wyoming’s boom and bust economy, and many other challenges. Despite these many challenges, their aggregate efforts over time, in conjunction with generations of great faculty, great students, and great alumni have helped build a gem of a school nestled in the Rockies. A school of which we can all be proud, but a school for which I hope the best is yet to come.

I have been a dean or an associate dean at UW College of Law for the last five years and as a result I have been tasked with helping to lead the school during what has been one of the most tumultuous and volatile times in the history of legal education.
