Jones President, Wyoming State BarI hope those of you that made resolutions for 2012 are continuing to work on them, have satisfied them or are trying to redefine your resolutions to make them manageable. I have set some lofty goals and resolutions for 2012. I continue with my theme of finding balance between the practice of law and the needs of three children, my wife, extended family, friends and time for myself. To assist me and balance the scales, I have enlisted numerous friends and members of my family to provide support in achieving my goals and resolutions. One of my main resolutions is to get into better physical shape. My children, at least the oldest two, are encouraging as they remind me to exercise every day and my wife reminds me to have my Labrador Retriever take me out for a daily walk. A few of my friends have challenged me to achieve my goal by placing a bounty of $10.00 per pound on my weight loss with the proceeds going to charity. I have parlayed this challenge into one involving part of my football officiating crew with a wager of our first paycheck. While weighing in with the school nurse (my officiating crew is in the education field), I was invited by her to play the "Biggest Loser" challenge on behalf of my daughter's school. Now my seemingly personal resolution has turned into a public charity challenge with my success being measured weekly

The Wyoming State Bar also sets goals through its biannual strategic planning process. It is beneficial to set goals, establish the manner to measure the goals and then align the Bar's budget to accomplish the strategic plan. The Bar defined three main goals. The first goal is to elevate the competence, civility, professionalism and success of Wyoming lawyers by implementing a new lawyer mentoring program. This program will create an opportunity for a new lawyer, during the critical transition period from law student to legal practitioner, to receive professional guidance and practical knowledge from an experienced practitioner. The second goal is to be an active stakeholder in discussions involving ensuring equal justice for all, with particular focus and attention on pro bono activities and pro se representation and to have a presence...
