Harold S. Bloomenthal died August 22, 2011, at his home in Denver, Colorado. He was 90.

Harold Stafford Bloomenthal was born in Shirley, Massachusetts on December 10, 1920, and grew up in Burlington, Vermont. He graduated from Marshall University, cum laude in 1942 and joined the United States Army Air Corp as a navigator on a B-29 Superfortress, where he served in the Pacific Theater flying 35 missions over enemy forces. After serving in World War II, Mr Bloomenthal returned to his education where he received his JD from Duke University in 1947 graduating first in his class and Order of the Coif Mr. Bloomenthal began his practice of law with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. But his passion was teaching, and he returned to school and received a J.S.D. degree from Yale University in 1950. After receiving his J.S.D. he returned to the SEC where he was an enforcement attorney in the Denver Regional Office of the Securities and Exchange Commission. In 1952 he began his teaching career at the University of Wyoming. There he also developed his love of writing, publishing articles in Securities Law, and a casebook in Natural Resources.

Mr. Bloomenthal began the private practice of law in the areas of corporate and securities law in 1954, but would return to the University of Wyoming to teach for close to 20 years. He also taught at Northwestern School of Law of Lewis and Clark College, University of Denver College of Law, Duke University, the University of Arizona, the University of Colorado and the Hastings College of Law.

Mr. Bloomenthal was a widely published and nationally recognized authority in the field of securities law. His intellectual curiosity inspired his passion for writing, but he derived great satisfaction from sharing his extensive knowledge about securities law with others, especially young lawyers and law students. He is the author of Sarbanes-Oxley Act in Perspective, Securities Handbook, Securities and Federal Corporate Law Reports and Going Public Handbook. The co-author of Securities and Federal Corporate Law, Going Public and the Public Corporation, coauthor and co-editor of International Capital Markets and Securities Regulation, Mr. Bloomenthal is also the author of numerous law review articles relating to securities...
