Executive Director, Wyoming State BarRemember that old sage advice from Mom, Dad, Uncle Henry, Aunt Gertrude and the like that, whenever approaching a railroad crossing.... be certain to stop, look and listen. Still very good advice. Allow me to suggest a small addition to that sage pronouncement; Leap! Almost gotcha, didn't I? Oh no, after spending nigh on to 30 years with WYDOT, far be it from me to recommend leaping in on or around railroad tracks. No, the leap I propose is one of faith. Faith in this instance in the now up and running Wyoming Lawyers Health Benefit Plan. As might be expected, the first couple of months of plan implementation caused some degree of heartburn and angst amongst those of us that labored so hard and immersed ourselves so deeply in the murky and exotic world of fitful starts and stops of health benefit plan establishment. I think I can speak generally on behalf of your entire health benefit planning committees as to the education such an effort entails. Just trying to absorb the basics is one thing, but wedding the substantive elements of the health industry with the jargon of the trade-craft at times approached flashbacks of law school.

Having persevered and survived the initial thrust into this strange new health benefit land; having seen and heard the grinding of the wheels of progress as we labored to build from scratch a real live benefit plan that the membership of the Wyoming State Bar would be both appreciative and supportive of; and after meeting, discussing, meeting, discussing and then meeting and discussing some more, lo and behold there ultimately appeared before our very eyes, a real live benefit plan designed exclusively for, and in the interest of Wyoming lawyers and their families. For the uninitiated and new arrivals, this effort was by no means a spur-of-the-moment, loose and fancy free, out of left field, pie in the sky undertaking. No indeed, as the official minutes of the Officers and Commissioners meetings over the years will attest, this is the culmination of many, many individuals, committees, survey results, research efforts, collaborations, hits and misses, and long term planning by an untold number of bar members...
