That Vision Thing -A.KA. The Future of Our Profession

My featured Commissioner this month is C. Dane Nolan. Dane was recently elected Commissioner to represent the Third Division. Although this is Dane's first year as an elected Commissioner, he is really a veteran, having previously served in an ex officio capacity as the Minority Bar representative to the Commission. Dane is married to Susan Barnum, who is also an attorney. Susan serves as an Assistant Attorney General in the Tax Division. Dane and Susan have two children, with a third on the way. Dane is a criminal prosecutor with the Special Victim's Team of the Salt Lake County District Attorney's office. As most of you know, Dane recently made national news with his now legendary "motel room" cross examination and successful verdict in the David Kingston prosecution.

My principal topic this month involves the future of our profession. I recently attended the ABA and the National Conference of Bar President's meetings in Atlanta. Those meetings are always stimulating and informative. They cause those of us who choose to be active in Bar matters to focus on the inherent dilemma we face as Bar leaders. That...
