Plans are in the final stages to construct a world class, $25 million Red Skelton Museum and Performing Arts Center at Vincennes University. The center is to be built one block from Skelton's boyhood home. Funded by a $15 million appropriation from the Indiana General Assembly, the first phase of the project features a state-of-the-art theater, seating at least 800 persons, an art gallery and a performing arts education center. A campaign is currently under way to raise private donations for the second phase of the project, a museum to showcase Skelton's long and distinguished career in show business and as a renowned artist and composer.
