Newly elected Rep. Michael Waltz, R-Fla., is somewhat of a unicorn on Capitol Hill as he is the first former Green Beret elected to Congress. He also served in the Pentagon and the White House as an advisor and was the president of a defense contractor. Not surprisingly, he was appointed to the House Armed Services Committee.

"I made a lot of new friends since I got on Armed Services, suddenly. I don't know why," he quipped at a recent NDIA conference. His experience in the private sector may make him a sympathetic ear for contractors. "I have the battle scars from how broken our procurement system can be," he said.
