Spud, aka John Milton, is back at boarding school for his second year. His balls have still not dropped and before long, his girlfriend dumps him. He and his dorm mates, known as "The Crazy Eights" (even though one of them died in the previous novel and is replaced by a cat) continue their relentless pursuit of what--fun? Maybe, not so much. Maybe, just surviving the school year with all its assorted oddities and cruelties is the goal here. Of course, as the year progresses, Spud physically matures somewhat, making his nickname inaccurate, but in what are supposed to be comic adventures (yet seem more like exercises in endless acts of intimidation, ruthlessness, and brutality rather than good, clean fun), Spud makes his way through the school year with some success and only a few...
