VALUATION
This is the second major part of this book, and valuation techniques are discussed. It begins
with a discussion of basic concepts and is followed by details about various valuation
methods and the analysis needed to implement them. The chapters in Part II present and
discuss the cost,market, and income approaches to valuation. For intellectual property, it
will become clear that only the income approach is suitable, and in Chapter 8, on the income
approach, is dominated by considerations related to dening economic benets, the timing
of their receipt, and the risk of receiving them. Discounted cash ow analysis is used to
isolate the value of intellectual property from the value of an overall business enterprise.
