I read Americas Magazine for the first time last week when I visited my doctor's office. I was so engrossed in the article about, Vodou in Haiti that I borrowed the magazine from my doctor.

Vodou, or at least the way it is portrayed in the popular press and movies, has always brought to mind things spooky, mumbo jumbo, the living dead, superstition. However, the magazine--or at least the author--takes it seriously. She didn't judge the validity of religious belief or practices but respected them for what they are. I have read about other cases, in Venezuela, Brazil, and other countries where people mix Catholic and African religious beliefs, but the way Jane...
