Maydak v. U.S. Dept. of Justice, 254 F.Supp.2d 23 (D.D.C. 2003). A prisoner sought the release, under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), of copies of law enforcement and prison records. The district court granted summary judgment for the government and the prisoner appealed. The appeals court held that the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) specifically exempted its systems of inmate records from the access provisions of the disclosure accounting requirement of the Privacy Act, as it was permitted to do.
