The park cafe: the best part of waking up

Some things just go together: Toast and jam. Bacon and eggs. Breakfast and the Park Cafe. Most mornings (and always on weekends) the diner is packed with Salt Lake residents looking for a hearty, classic American breakfast.

The Park Cafe's building, located just south of the Liberty Park in Salt Lake City, has been a diner since 1952, when it operated under a different name, says Sean Miller, one of the cafe's owners. It has changed hands several times in the years since, and Miller bought the restaurant with his wife, mother and aunt about 10 years ago.

Over the years it's become a fixture in the community. "We rely heavily on our neighborhood here. A lot of our regulars are neighbors," Miller says. Many lasting friendships have begun there. Not long ago, a man who had been regular at the cafe for several years struck up a conversation with a woman--also a regular--as they both left the restaurant. They're now engaged to marry.

The Park Cafe benefits from its park-side location. It's become a tradition for many to stop in for breakfast or lunch every week after jogging or walking in the park. But it's more than just location that keeps people coming back. "Their food is amazing, especially the Park Potatoes, and their service is great and so fast. Never ever a let down!" writes Madison Parsons...
