Useful iPhone apps for CPAs.

With more than 140,000 apps available for the iPhone, it's difficult to find only a few to discuss. Since getting my iPhone and discovering the app store, life as I knew it has changed. Here are a few that I use on a regular basis in my practice:

Documents to Go: Enables you to read, create, edit and view Microsoft Office documents. It creates different folders for documents generated on your phone and documents created on your computer. You can also edit attachments that have been downloaded through Microsoft Exchange.

Dragon Dictation: The slower and more distinctively you speak, the better the results. You can cut and paste your dictated message into any other app.

Social networking: Facebook, Twitter and Linkedln all have apps that allow you to stay in touch with your peeps. Keep in mind, though, that the apps don't offer all the features of the online versions.

Tom Tom Navigation: Like the Google Maps app, Tom Tom Navigation does not use real GPS, but instead uses the cell tower Locations to identify your location.

Travel: At this writing Southwest Airlines is the only carrier that has an iPhone app. They have recently updated the app to make navigating easier. In addition, they have added their "on sale" feature called "Ding," which sends you a message each day to alert you to open the app and see what deals are available for that day only from airports you have selected.
