Upstate Weekend: Sarah Jarosz, Old Time Fiddling Convention.

Some of the greats of bluegrass and 'nu-grass' will be showing up on Upstate marquees this fall, starting with this weekend's performance of four-time Grammy Award-winner Sarah Jarosz and some champion fiddlers closer to home.

S.C. State Old Time FiddlingConvention

Appalachian musicians from all corners of the state will gather around Pickens' Hagood Mill Friday and Saturday to vie for the title of champion at the S.C. State Old Time Fiddling Convention.

The event kicks off at 7 p.m. on Friday with Golden Shoals and the Carolina All-Star String Band, composed of members of the West End String Band, Queen family and Pretty Little Goat Band. Tickets to the concert are $5 per person with food available for sale at 6:30 p.m. Admission for the festival is $5 and includes entrance to the Hagood Mill Historic Site and Heritage Pavilion and Hagood Creek Petroglyph Site. Camping at the event will be available.

Bluegrass session at Oolenoy Community House

If you can't make the bluegrass session at Pickens' Oolenoy Community House this Friday starting at 7 p.m., you can catch your local pickers or join in on the jam any Friday night. There is no admission fee for the event, but donations help pay the rent at the old schoolhouse on 5301 Dacusville Highway.
