Uponor to hold Hutchinson grand opening.

Plumbing pipe maker Uponor will officially open its massive new manufacturing building in Hutchinson on Thursday after taking a few months to ramp up production.

The Helsinki, Finland-based company started operations in the a 237,000-square-foot building at 45 Highland Park Drive NE in May, six months ahead of schedule, according to a company press release. Uponor paid $6.35 million for the 26-year-old building in 2017.

The company will hold a ribbon cutting for the facility at 9 a.m. on Thursday.

The facility has produced more than 30 million feet of crosslinked polyethylene -- or PEX -- tubing since opening. More than 40 people work in the plan, which operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
